A good database is the heart of most modern applications. And good database support is often the difference between the “hero” and the “villain” application (and sometimes its developer!)

- Microsoft has released a version of SQL 2000 called “Workgroup Edition”. This is a well-featured database, and about a third the price of SQL 2000 or 2005 Standard Edition. It will automatically log ship to a second server.
- SQL 2005 Express is be the replacement for MSDE, and no longer has any concurrent user limitations. It also has full text-search and some reporting features.
- SQL Standard Edition 2005 now mirrors, a great benefit for high uptime websites. In a three-server configuration, it will automatically fail over.
